If you have caught a ride with Ellie Majchrzak in her Chevy Blazer lately, you may have wondered why her car smells of old stale beer. It’s not what you think.
At a recent Westmore Selectboard meeting, the board discussed how to handle redeemable bottles. The road crew explained that transporting the bottles to a redemption center was too costly in staff time and vehicle use, so the transfer station crew asked the Selectboard for guidance on how to handle this large volume of returnables. At that point, our president, Ellie Majchrzak, offered to take the bottles to the nearest redemption center if the Westmore Association could accept the proceeds as a donation. The money would return to the community.
The Selectboard agreed. After just three bottle runs by Ellie, the Westmore Association has collected over $100. This effort is a wonderful way to raise funds for the Westmore Association and support our community. Still, it will not be sustainable without more volunteers willing to transport the bottles. If you can make a trip to the redemption center in support of a clean and protected Willoughby Lake, please let Ellie know (elliemaj46@gmail.com).
