Mon, 05 Oct 2020 02:42:15 +0000 Welcome to the new blog of the Westmore Association featured here on our wonderful new website. I hope this update finds all of our readers well and staying healthy during these crazy times we all are enduring together. It’s hard to believe fall is here already. Kudos to all who completed (or at least attempted!) last weekend’s annual Westmore Challenge. The weather was perfect for this amazing event and the Westmore Association was there to help support all of the participants with some refreshments and energy bars to keep everyone moving ahead on the trails. Thanks to Ellie, Jennifer, Abbie and Deb for representing! Here’s a couple of great images from the day!

We have some new “swag” to share with our members which proudly display our beautiful new logo! Heavy cotton t-shirts, tote bags and stickers are now available. To begin the festivities we’re offering you an opportunity to get a bag, a shirt and a sticker all for $50 including shipping and handling. Go to our Sales page and you can order directly through the website!!

We hope you’ll all stay tuned here for new updates, announcements and more “blog worthy” contributions!

Daniel Ian Smith, President, Westmore Association

Honoring Millie Davis Wed, 12 Aug 2020 17:35:24 +0000 Thanks to all of our members who attended our virtual annual meeting last Thursday night! It was a great pleasure to see so many of you and I thought the meeting was really productive. As mentioned we honored Millie Davis this year. She is such an amazing person and still bringing so much love and light into this world at 90 years young! Abbie Gowdie-Chase, Peter Chase and I went to visit her last Friday afternoon to say hello and present her with the recognition. It was just terrific to go and see her. She looks wonderful and was so grateful for the visit and the honor.
Thank you,
Daniel I Smith

Ice Cream Stops – Summer 2020 Thu, 23 Apr 2020 01:41:27 +0000 When it comes to Vermont everyone thinks of cows, ice cream and Ben & Jerry’s. Our ice cream experts tell us that you can enjoy some of Vermont’s most incredible ice cream treats right here at Willoughby Lake. This list is far from exhaustive, new shops pop up every summer. What we can say is that nothing beats a vanilla creamee (Vermont’s title for soft serve) with maple crunchies at any one of these nearby NEK favorites.

 • Willoughby Lake Store: check out the stand on the side of the building and enjoy the seating area with a roaring brook and lake views.
 • Will-o-barn: the ice cream stand is right alongside the food counter. Outside seating offers hillside views of the lake and mountain ranges.
 • Trading Post: take the brief scenic ride on Rte 16 to the Evansville Trading Post, an experience you won’t soon forget. The outside service is fast and efficient and doggie sundaes are on the menu.
 • Derby Scoops: no ride to Derby is complete without a stop at the ice cream stand on the grounds of the school. Scoops has some of the best flavors in the Kingdom and kids sundaes are a bargain.
 • Barton Scoops: the same great ice cream as Derby with a nearby riverside location.
 • Lyndonville Freight House: Classic Vermont old train station with views of the tracks and the town center.
 • East Burke: bike riders, tourists and passersby love the ice cream stand by the entryway to Kingdom Trails.
Summer Memories Mon, 26 Mar 2018 21:37:25 +0000 Remember when? This phrase can describe something from last summer or go all the way back to the dances at the The Boulders club 100 years ago. Everything seems better when it is at the lake and each summer is guaranteed to produce new lifetime memories. With luck and good fortune we can build on the successes of the past like our square dances, concerts and talent shows. Make your new memories this season. ]]>
